The Mansa Municipal Council is currently in the process of receiving bursary applications, under the Constituency Development Fund, from all interested youths between 16 and 35 years, who wish to acquire a motorbike riders license.
This follows an agreement made between the Mansa Municipal Council, the Motorbikes Association and Mansa Trades Training Institute after successful consultations made with a view to encourage road safety in Mansa District.
In the year 2023, Mansa District is among many districts that recorded an unprecedented increase in the number of motorbikes with many of them being used for transportation or people and goods.
Observations made by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), Zambia Police, Zambia Revenue Authority and the Mansa Municipal Council were that most riders of the motorbikes were not licensed to operate motorbikes which posed a road safety concern.
Through continuous engagements with relevant stakeholders, it was resolved that the Local Authority would offer bursaries to motorbike riders under the Bahati and Mansa Central CDF for them to be trained and acquire rider licenses.
The Local Authority is hopeful that once the motorbike riders are taught how to ride the motorbikes and road safety rules, movements on the roads will be safer for all road users.
The adverts for both constituencies are currently running up to 12th January 2024.
