Residents in Mwela Community in Chansunsu Ward of Mansa Central Constituency have thanked Government for the construction of two staff houses at Mwela Community School.
Mathias Kabaso a resident of Kapompole village in Mwela Area, says from inception, teachers have had to find accommodation elsewhere and most of them live in Mansa town,
“But the coming of the houses will change the state of affairs and the teachers will be living among us” he said.
Mr. Kabaso has thanked President Hakainde Hichilema and the Government for the Constituency Development Fund which has paved way for developments that many communities did not imagine could happen.
He added that the literacy levels in Mwela community will improve because now the teachers will be living with the community and can focus more time on the pupils.
Mr. Kabaso also encouraged fellow parents to support the teachers by ensuring that children are sent to school to learn.
And Maureen Chisala, also a resident of Kapompole village says once the teachers occupy the houses which are within the school premises, the management of the school property will improve.
“We never thought that we would ever have houses for the teachers at this school, now there will always be someone within the school premises and bad vices such as theft from the school can be curtailed” she added.
The residents in the Mwela Community are hopeful that once the teachers move into their new homes, initiatives such as extra lessons and other extra school activities will be introduced in order to help pupils catch up with their lessons.
The construction of the two staff houses is funded under the Mansa Central Constituency Development Fund at a total cost of K659,776.43.
