Residents of Monta village in Katangashi Ward of Bahati Constituency are elated at the progress made on the construction of a 1X3 CRB, Staff House, Ablution block and water reticulation at Kabondo Community School.
The project which is being funded under the Bahati Constituency Development Fund is costed at K1,421,015.55.
Katangashi Ward Councillor Charles Musonda says Monta village and surrounding areas is characterized by low literacy because schools are about 5 Kilometers away on a minimum.
He said many children did not attend school because of the long distances and fees that parents were required to pay in the past.
“But that has changed, the Government has brought free education and now a school has been built in the community with a teachers’ house and toilets with running water – something we never thought could be”, he added.
Meanwhile, Katangashi Ward Development Committee (WDC) Chairperson Hyporatus Mubanga, said the community agreed to build a school in the village to reduce the distance covered by school going children.
He added that the closest school to the community is Ndoba Primary School, and it is about 5 Kilometers away.
Mr. Mubanga has thanked the Government for the increased Constituency Development Fund which has made it possible to construct a school in the area.
And Monta Village Headman Binwell Mapinda urged members of the community in Katangashi Ward to safeguard the new infrastructure and avoid vandalism so it can stand the rest of time.
He also urged parents to ensure that their children go to school as a school has been brought closer.
“As headman and a parent, I will make sure that parents take their children to school because the school has now come closer. Educating the children is one way to bring development to our community”, he added.
