CDF EMPOWERS THOUSANDS IN LUAPULA PROVINCE

The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has had a profound impact on the lives of thousands of people in Luapula Province.

According to recent statistics shared during the 2025 budget hearings for Local Authorities, the CDF has empowered beneficiaries through various initiatives including skills development, secondary school education, grants and loans.

The CDF’s skills development pillar has seen a significant increase in beneficiaries over the years. In 2022, 1,591 individuals benefited from the programme which rose to 3,610 in 2023 and 4,046 in 2024.

The skills development fund has equipped many young people with valuable skills enabling them to become self-employed or secure better-paying jobs.

In addition, the CDF has also supported secondary school education in Luapula Province with 1,488 pupils benefiting from the programme in 2022. The number of pupils increased to 3,174 in 2023 and further to 3,717 in 2024. This initiative has helped many students from disadvantaged backgrounds access quality education.

Meanwhile, the CDF has provided grants and loans to support entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.

In 2022, 609 clubs and cooperatives received grants with an increment to 1,323 in 2023 and 1,520 in 2024. The loan scheme has also supported 256 cooperatives and companies in 2022, 277 in 2023 and 569 in 2024.

The CDF’s impact in Luapula Province is a testament to the power of community-led development initiatives.

By empowering individuals and communities, the CDF is helping to break the cycle of poverty and promote sustainable economic growth.
