The Paul Mambilima Police Post, located in Mushipashi Ward of Bahati Constituency, has officially been commissioned. The facility was constructed by Kilwa Limited at a total cost of Two Million Eight Hundred Sixty-Four Thousand Three Hundred Twenty-One Kwacha and Twenty-Five Ngwee (K2,864,321.25) funded under the 2022 and 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The new Police Post comprises of administrative offices, two holding cells for male and female detainees with flushable ablution blocks, a water reticulation system, a two-bedroom duplex, and a standalone two-bedroom staff house equipped with solar power.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Luapula Province Minister, Engineer Nason Musonda, underscored the importance of the new facility, noting that it will significantly reduce the distance residents of Paul Mambilima and surrounding areas previously had to travel to access police services in Senama, located approximately 43 kilometres away.
The Minister further emphasised that the Government has placed great priority on infrastructure development that directly responds to the needs of the people. He noted that the presence of the police post will improve the response time to incidents in an area that has long lacked police presence, which has contributed to increased crime rates.
Engineer Musonda urged the Zambia Police Command to expedite the procurement of necessary furniture and ensure the prompt deployment of personnel to operationalize the police post. He also called on the local community to take ownership of the facility and guard it against vandalism.
Earlier, Mansa Mayor, His Worship Njikho Musuku, and Mansa Districrt Commissioner, Mrs. Ireen Chivweta, warned those involved in misdemeanors such as Ichitaleme and the use of vulgar language especially among the youth that the establishment of the Police Post would help curb such behavior.
Mansa Town Clerk, Dr. Josephine Mwanza, expressed gratitude to the Paul Mambilima community for their patience during the construction phase, while Chief Matanda’s representative, Mr. John Kasongo, thanked the Government for delivering the first-ever police facility of its kind in the area.
The event was attended by heads of various government departments, including Mansa Municipal Council Director of Engineering Services, Engineer Andrew M’tewa, and other senior council officials.
