AUGUST 29,2025-Tungilila Cooperative has brought its long-envisioned piggery project to life three months after receiving financial support from government.
Immediately after receiving a K20,000 Grant under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the 21-member cooperative quickly swung into action and purchased five pigs as the foundation of their livestock venture.
To ensure the animals are properly sheltered, the Lwingishi ward based corporative used part of the funds to construct a temporary piggery enclosure.
The group has also procured 10 iron sheets in preparation for building a permanent and more durable piggery structure that will support future expansion.
Cooperative Secretary, Given Ng’andwe expressed optimism for their business and thanked government for the support that has enabled the group to embark on this business venture.
“This support from government has truly empowered us. We now have a starting point and with commitment and hard work, we believe our piggery project will grow. Once the pigs begin to multiply, we plan to reinvest and scale up operations which will directly improve the livelihoods of our members,” said Ng’andwe.
Ms Ng’andwe also took a moment to encourage other citizens especially the youth and women to consider forming cooperatives in order to benefit from government empowerment programmes like CDF.
“There is power in unity, we urge others especially the youths and women to organize themselves into cooperatives to access similar opportunities,” she added.
The Tungilila Cooperative’s story is a growing testament to the impact of grassroots empowerment and the transformative role of CDF in fostering sustainable livelihoods.
