June 25th ,2026-Mansa Municipal Council Chief Community Development Officer Victor Phiri says the water connection project in Kabuta forms part of the requirements for upgrading the area into a township.
Speaking during a community sensitization meeting on water connections in Kabuta in today, Mr. Phiri noted that Kabuta is among the 16 settlements earmarked for upgrading under the Local Area Plan, out of the 22 settlements identified across Mansa District.
Meanwhile, Luapula Water and Sewerage Company (LuWSC) Customer Service Officer Bernard Polombwe said the utility company is working with the local authority, GIZ Citizen+D and other stakeholders to address water challenges in Kabuta and ensure that all households have access to clean, piped drinking water.
Mr. Polombwe revealed that the Water connection in Kabuta project aims to connect 500 households to prepaid water meters at no cost. He said LpWSC has waived the K4,500 meter fee, as well as the K1,000 and K2,500 connection charges, to make the service more accessible to residents who may not afford the standard installation costs. Mr Polombwe added that the prepaid meters will be fitted with durable, self-rechargeable batteries.
He further provided residents with a technical explanation of the water treatment process, detailing how water is treated before being distributed to households. He also outlined the prepaid water purchasing system and how residents will access the service.
Residents have been encouraged to contribute to the project by helping to dig trenches where water pipes will pass and where necessary, providing space within their premises for the installation of water infrastructure. Beneficiaries will also be required to contribute K600, payable in two instalments.
And delivering a vote of thanks, George Simwaba expressed gratitude to the local authority, LpWSC and all stakeholders for prioritizing Kabuta for upgrading and for waiving the water connection fees, which will enable more households to access clean and safe drinking water.
