July 17,2026-The Mansa Municipal Council Fire Brigade on Saturday responded to a fatal road traffic accident near the Lwamfumu area along the Mansa–Kawambwa Road after receiving a distress call at 15:07 hours.
The accident involved a blue Toyota Kluger that was travelling from Mansa towards Mwense and the deceased has been identified as Dr. Nathan Mubanga, Mwense District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator.
Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle overturned, and the impact of the rollover ignited a fire, which rapidly engulfed the vehicle, which had three occupants in it. Two occupants survived and sustained injuries, while the driver became trapped inside the burning vehicle and sadly lost his life after being burnt beyond recognition.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Mansa Municipal Council Fire Brigade officers swiftly commenced emergency operations and the team successfully extinguished the fire, secured the accident scene, and carefully retrieved the remains of the deceased driver from the burnt vehicle.
The emergency response team comprised Kataya Lytton, Bwalya Makandwe, Miyambo William, and Obidience Sinkamba, whose prompt response ensured the fire was contained and the necessary rescue and recovery operations were carried out professionally.
The cause of the accident has not yet been officially established, and investigations by the relevant authorities are underway.
